to identify natural diamonds, treated natural diamonds and synthetic diamonds (loose and/or mounted).
Would you like to know more about fancy coloured diamonds, diamond treatments or laboratory-grown diamonds and diamond spectroscopy? HRD Antwerp offers workshops designed to introduce you into the fascinating world of extraordinary diamonds and focus on ruby, sapphire and emerald.
Within the world of diamonds, one of the hot topics continues to be the one of synthetic diamonds. More and more undisclosed synthetic diamonds infiltrate the market: HPHT and CVD synthetic diamonds are mixed into parcels of natural stones and synthetic diamonds are more frequently mounted in jewellery pieces. The main problem the industry is now facing, is the detection of those synthetic stones, whether they are part of a parcel or mounted.
The solution to this problem is spectroscopy, the study of the interaction between matter and electromagnetic radiation, because the optical centres in synthetic diamonds differ from those in natural diamonds.
During this workshop, our instructors will explain the reactions of synthetic and natural stones to different wavelengths. You will also get the chance to actively measure and analyse diamonds.
